MISSOULA, Mont. - Freshman Jordan Hasquet scored a career-high 30 points Monday and senior Kevin Criswell added 21 as Montana beat Big Sky Conference champion Northern Arizona 96-83.
The Lumberjacks (20-9, 12-2 Big Sky) had clinched the regular season championship and a right to host the league tournament Saturday. Montana (21-6, 10-4) finished second and, like NAU, gets a bye into the March 7 semifinals.
Hasquet, whose previous best was 20 points against Stanford on Dec. 2, bested that with 6:18 left in the first half. During an 11-minute stretch that saw the Grizzlies go from an 8-3 deficit to a 32-21 lead, Hasquet scored 22 points in Montana’s 29-13 run.
The Grizzlies stretched it to 40-21 on 3-pointers from Criswell and Mike Chavez, who finished with 16 points in eight minutes, and two Criswell free throws.
Hasquet scored 24 of his points in the first half. He finished 12-of-15 from the field, including 4-of-6 on 3-pointers, and spent 14 minutes on the bench.
