Mesa's Hohokam Stadium will host the Western Athletic Conference baseball championship tournament beginning next spring.
The agreement runs from 2010 through 2012, with a mutual option between the WAC and city of Mesa for the 2013 season.
The announcement was made at a Thursday afternoon press conference at the park, which is also the Chicago Cubs' spring training home.
This is a double-elimination tournament to conclude the regular season, in which the top six teams from the WAC are automatic entrants. The winner earns an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
The WAC features Hawaii, Fresno State, Louisiana Tech, Sacramento State, Nevada, New Mexico State and San Jose State. The conference championship has been played in Arizona nine times, including stops in Mesa in 1971 and 1973.
Previously the tournament was held in Hawaii, where it will be again later this month.
