The Suns are waiting for Joe Johnson to clear his physical exam with the Atlanta Hawks so they can try to complete a deal to land James Jones in a deal with Indiana, a league source said Wednesday.
Jones is a backup off-guard who is a restricted free agent.
The Suns would use about $2 million of the $6 million exception to the salary cap they gained in the Johnson trade to acquire Jones.
Also, Wednesday, the agent for Michael Finley confirmed the free agent off-guard is considering the Suns, Miami and San Antonio and should have a decision by next week.
Henry Thomas also said money "is a factor" in the decision.
The Suns have slightly more than $1 million, a veteran’s exception to the salary cap, to offer Finley. The Spurs can offer about $2.5 million while the Heat have a midlevel exception of about $5 million.
