The kudos keeps rolling in for last year’s Chandler National Little League team as the Arizona Legislature honored the sluggers Tuesday for reaching the World Series.
The unanimous passage of SCR1028 fulfilled a promise from Sen. Jay Tibshraeny, RChandler, after the Little League team earned the right to represent the West region in August during world championship games in Williamsport, Pa.
The team compiled an 18-2 playoff record and won three games in Williamsport before falling in a national semifinal game.
"You electrified the people here in Arizona who were watching you in Williamsport on TV," said Sen. Slade Mead, R-Ahwatukee Foothills, whose district also includes western Chandler. "You really captured the hearts of everybody here."
Eleven of the 12 teammates were introduced in the galleries of the state Senate and House of Representatives, wearing their jerseys and ballcaps from the World Series games.
"They said the uniform still fits them almost seven months later, but the hats are starting to get a little tight," Tibshraeny said.
Left fielder Eddie Malone Jr., 13, said Tuesday was the first time he had been to the state Capitol in Phoenix.
"I kind of like this stuff, all the history here," Malone said.
