The mystery man is gone.
Tim Grgurich, the NBA's vagabond assistant coach who worked for the Suns the past two seasons, appears to be working out a deal with the Portland Trail Blazers, Suns officials said.
Grgurich, who didn't talk to reporters, decides every summer where he wants to work.
This would be his second stint with the Trail Blazers. He worked for George Karl for many years in Seattle and Milwaukee. He once was briefly named the head coach at UNLV — he had worked previously as an assistant there under Jerry Tarkanian — but quickly resigned, citing health reasons.
- Jackson Vroman, the Suns' second-round pick, had a pretty impressive summer.
In the Suns' two leagues (in Las Vegas and Salt Lake City) Vroman averaged 7.6 points and 4.6 rebounds while shooting an impressive 55 percent.
What's more, he appeared to know how to play. He was particularly adept at drawing fouls.
The question about him is whether he will be physically overmatched playing the power forward spot. He's listed at 6-foot-10, 220 pounds.
Says assistant coach Marc Iavaroni, "He's got good fundamentals. And he has a lot of desire.
"Size isn't everything. A lot of it is knowing how to play and using what you have."
