Powered by Hillary Bach’s 10th shutout and Krista Donnenwirth’s two RBIs, the 10th-seeded Arizona State softball team opened the 2009 postseason with a 5-0 win over San Diego State in the second game of the Tempe Regional Friday night.
The Sun Devils (41-16) play LSU at 3 p.m. Saturday in the winner’s bracket in a game that will be televised on ESPNU from Farrington Stadium in Tempe.
A single to left field from Kaitlin Cochran got the Sun Devils started in the first inning and Donnenwirth singled her home. San Diego State’s pitching struggled in the fourth as they walked in two runs while ASU collected two hits to put up for three runs to build a 4-0 lead.
Donnenwirth’s RBI hit scored Cochran in the sixth inning to close out the scoring.
Bach (25-9) allowed five hits while striking out two.
