Tempe Corona del Sol High School senior catcher Ashley Hansen is one of 32 players to receive a tryout at softball’s National Team Olympic Selection Camp from Sept. 10-14 in Chula Vista, Calif.

The camp will be the final opportunity to try out for the 2008 Olympic Games.

Hansen, an all-state selection the previous two years, will join Arizona State standouts Katie Burkhart and Kaitlin Cochran as Olympic hopefuls.

BASEBALL

• Zak Johnson, Connor Burton and Malcolm Holland each had two hits but the Chandler Hamilton Huskies 14-and-under baseball team lost 12-7 to Meridian, Ind., at the Babe Ruth World Series in Glen Allen, Va.

The Huskies have an off day today and play Virginia on Wednesday.

With a victory on Wednesday, the Huskies may still be able to advance to the elimination round as the top three teams from each five-team pool advance.

Friday’s races will be staged on the one-third mile track and feature Factory Stocks, Dwarf Cars and Bombers.

Saturday the American Sprint Car Series and BTS/ Barnett Dirt Modifieds run on the half-mile track with Midgets going on the short track.

Mini Sprints, which were originally scheduled to run Friday, then moved to Saturday, will not be running due to a conflicting race elsewhere.
