Jason Watson has been named women’s volleyball coach at Arizona State, the school announced Tuesday.
Watson becomes the sixth coach in the program’s history after spending the past three years as head coach at Brigham Young. He replaces Brad Saindon, whose contract was not renewed at the end of last season.
In his three seasons at BYU, Watson compiled a 74-18 (.804) overall record and led the Cougars to three straight NCAA tournament appearances. In his first season as head coach, he was named Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year after leading his team to a 25-4 record, the program’s best record since 1998.
In 2007, he led BYU to a 24-8 overall record and a No. 12 final ranking. The Cougars also reached the NCAA final eight.
Prior to becoming a head coach, Watson spent 11 years as an assistant coach at four universities. He was also an All-American at BYU.
