Megan Elliott fired a no-hitter in Arizona State's 19-0 five-inning victory over Rutgers Friday in Tempe, but the Sun Devils finished the day on a sour note.
ASU (6-2) suffered a 10-9 loss in nine innings to Illinois State in its second game of the Littlewood Classic.
Elliott was dominant in the opener for the Sun Devils, giving the Scarlet Knights little story to tell, allowing no hits. She was one error from a perfect game, facing just 16 batters.
The Sun Devils backed her with 16 hits, including seven for extra bases.
ASU looked just as invincible in Game 2 against Illinois State, building a 7-0 lead behind the pitching of Hillary Bach.
The Redbirds rallied for five runs in the seventh to send the game to extra innings.
Illinois State used a pair of singles, a double and an error to put up three runs in the ninth. ASU got a two-run single for Annie Lockwood in the bottom half of the inning but fell a run short.
The Sun Devils face the Texas State Bobcats at 5 p.m. Saturday and the Iowa Hawkeyes at 7 p.m. Saturday at ASU's Farrington Stadium.
