The Arizona State women’s swimming team set its name in the school’s record books, winning the 200-yard freestyle relay Thursday at the Texas Invitational at Austin, Texas.
The Texas Invitational features some of the top swimming programs in the nation.
ASU beat Arizona, last year’s NCAA champions in the event.
With a time of 1 minute, 29.87 seconds, the team of Caitlin Andrew, Jen Beckberger, Lindsey Brown and Jess Perazzo set an ASU record in the event.
• Six swimmers from the Scottsdale Aquatic Club headed to the Short Course Nationals in Atlanta on Thursday for an attempt at making Olympic trial cuts, which will be held in June.
Phoenix Pinnacle’s Robert Barrett, Lindsey Laporte and Kacey Milligan, Scottsdale Horizon’s Annike Jonsson and Tyler Pennington and Erica Stock from Desert Sky Middle School will compete against a field that includes former Olympians such as Michael Phelps, Gary Hall Jr. (a Phoenix Brophy grad) and Natalie Coughlin.
The event will go through Monday.
