SU football coach Dirk Koetter stripped senior defensive end Connor Banks of his No. 42 Monday, following Banks' arrest for drunken driving in Scottsdale in late June.

ASU spokesman Mark Brand said Koetter did not feel it was appropriate for Banks to wear the number of former Sun Devil standout Pat Tillman, who was killed earlier this year in Afghanistan while battling al-Qaeda and Taliban fighters as a member of the Army Rangers.

Tillman's family was notified of the decision. ASU will formally retire Tillman's No. 42 jersey on Nov. 13 when the Sun Devils play Washington State.

Banks was suspended from the team indefinitely, following his arrest. No determination will be made on his playing status until his court case is resolved. If he is reinstated he will wear No. 58.

Banks was arrested June 20 for criminal damage, driving across a median and striking a fixture on a highway. He was arraigned in Scottsdale Municipal Court on June 29.
