The Cardinals signed kicker Mike Nugent to a one-year contract on Wednesday and placed safety Matt Ware on injured reserve with a knee injury.
Nugent was signed as insurance for kicker Neil Rackers, who aggravated a groin injury on Monday night against San Francisco, an injury he originally suffered earlier in the season.
Nugent, 27, was signed by Tampa before the offseason and played in four games before he was released in early October. He spent his first four seasons with the New York Jets and has a career 78.6 percent accuracy on field goals for his career.
The Cardinals travel to Detroit for a game against the Lions on Sunday.
