TUCSON - Tucson has acquired an expansion franchise from the Golden Baseball League that will be named the Toros and will begin play in 2009 it was announced Monday at Hi Corbett Field.
Toros managing partner Jay S. Zucker was the former owner of the Tucson Sidewinders, the Triple-A affiliate for the Diamondbacks. Zucker sold his franchise last year to SK Baseball, which will be moving the team to Reno, Nev., for the 2009 season.
The Golden Baseball League consists of independent teams (not affiliated with major league franchises) in the southwest U.S. and western Canada.
