Mercury forward DeWanna Bonner was named the WNBA Rookie of the Month for June on Wednesday, the first Mercury player to win the award in its history.
In those 10 games, the 6-foot-4 Bonner led all rookies in rebounding (6.1 rpg) and was second among rookies who played at least six games in scoring (11.5 ppg).
Bonner became the first Mercury rookie to post a double-double in her WNBA debut with 16 points and 11 rebounds in a 90-79 Mercury win against the defending Western Conference champion San Antonio Silver Stars. Bonner’s season-high of 21 points came in a 104-80 win over Minnesota, during which she also collected 10 rebounds.
Bonner currently leads all rookies and is tied for second in the league in double-doubles with three.
The first-place Mercury host Sacramento on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m.
