KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Junior forward Karin Volpe scored the game-tying and game-winning goals in the Arizona State women’s soccer team’s dramatic 3-2 double-overtime, come-from-behind victory over No. 23 Tennessee on Friday.

Down 2-1 and with time winding down the Sun Devils (2-0-0) launched one last desperate attack in hopes of finding the equalizer. Following a brief scramble in Tennessee’s zone in which the Vols (1-1-0) were unable to clear the ball, Volpe was able to quickly gather the ball and fired a shot into the lower left corner of the net to tie the game at 2-2 with 13 seconds left.

Each team threatened to end the game in the first overtime, however both defenses responded. The Sun Devils dominated in the second overtime as much of the play took place on Tennessee’s half of the field. ASU’s perseverance would finally pay off in the 107th minute when Volpe took a pass from teammate Bianca Doller, shook off a challenge from a Tennessee defender and laced a shot into the far right post for the win.
