SUN DEVILS

Movin’ on up? In the wacky world that is college football this year, No. 12 Arizona State might have the best draw of the week. The idle Sun Devils (7-0) could back their way into the Top 10 on Sunday following South Florida’s loss and a couple of matchups between ranked teams. Throw in No. 3 Boston College visiting No. 11 Virginia Tech on the 25th and that means at least two and possibly four teams ranked ahead of ASU could be goners before the Devils play again on Oct. 27 against visiting California.

COLLEGE

The fall of Troy: Week after week, there is a new all-time upset. So who will be this week’s Cinderella of the Gridiron? Notre Dame. Yes, Charlie Weis’ group of 1-6 Fighting Irish (and I use the term “Fighting” loosely) have what it takes to upset the men of Troy. It makes perfect sense. ND couldn’t topple USC with Brady Quinn, but when Evan Sharpley gets the start today at home it could be the Irish’s one shining moment. Plus the Trojans may still be shaken up from their shaky flight to South Bend.

CARDINALS

Edge of your seat: If the prospect of local boy Tim Rattay running the Cardinals’ offense doesn’t make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, how about Tim Hasselbeck? If ever there was a time for Russ Grimm and the offensive line to earn a paycheck, it’s now. Protecting your third- or fourth-string quarterback should be a secondary thought right now after opening up big holes for Edgerrin James (left). Time to shine, Edge. Time to shine.

NFL

50, it’s a magic number: Tom Brady is off to a career start. He’s looked so good, in fact, that many are claiming he will top Peyton Manning’s record of 49 TDs set in 2004. He’s currently on pace to throw 56, but can he really maintain this pace? Throwing 50 touchdowns is hard to do. That’s why no one has, no matter how good the start. Brett Favre threw 20 in six games in 1996 and finished with only 39. I’m setting the over/under at 41.
