East Valley briefs: Huskies reach Ruth semifinals

The Chandler Hamilton Huskies continued their storybook season by defeating Nottingham, N.J., 8-3 Thursday in a quarterfinal of the Babe Ruth World Series at Glen Allen, Va.

The Huskies face Northwest Region champion Meridian, Idaho, at 10 a.m. today in the semifinals. Connor Burton scattered five hits over six innings, allowing three runs to earn the win for the Huskies. Derek Hill, named player of the game, had two hits and two RBIs as did Zak Johnson. Josh Lee also contributed two hits.

• Tempe High School announced it will enshrine 24 new members into its athletic Hall of Fame at 6 p.m. Oct. 18 in the school cafeteria. The event is open to the public, and tickets are $13 in advance, $15 at the door.
