TREVISO, Italy - One thing I can safely say is the Suns are embracing and thoroughly enjoying their trip, taking every chance to drink in the culture of this wonderful country.
Tuesday, about 30 members of our traveling party, including about half the team, were on an 8 a.m. bus for our trip to a glass factory. Even after a 30-minute bus and 40-minute water taxi ride to the island of Murano, everyone was pumped for the two-hour tour and demonstration of how the Venetian glass is created.
Those who passed on the glass headed to Venice for a luxurious lunch at the Hotel Manaco, situated where the waters of the Grand Canal enter St. Mark’s basin. A few of the players, including Shawn Marion, made the short walk to St. Mark’s Square to feed the pigeons that count on some lunch from the tourists.
There are some bugs to be worked out. The taxis stop running around 1:30 a.m. in some of the cities, stranding some people in our party.
No e-mail or Internet access at the hotel has made communication a challenge. But it’s part of the adventure.
(Today) is another busy day. After the scrimmage, we’re heading out to the Prosecco winery for some grape tasting before returning for dinner at the Benetton Ghirada, thanks to our hosts.
