Alexandra Letzt of Scottsdale and Andy Nguyen, who will be a senior at Phoenix Mountain Pointe, each claimed U.S. Tennis Association National Open event titles this week.
Letzt didn’t lose a set in five matches as she won the 12-year-old girls singles title in Omaha, Neb., as the top seed in her age division.
Nguyen, who won the 5A Division I state title in 2007, swept six matches to win the boys 18 singles championship in Denver. Nguyen was a No. 10 seed but won six matches, and paired with Tempe Corona del Sol’s Garret Dunn to win the doubles championship.
