The Arizona State men are hoping to get out of New York with a victory today as they play LSU at 12:30 p.m. in the consolation game of the NIT Season Tip-Off.
The Sun Devils (4-1) played No. 7 Duke even for 27 minutes on Wednesday before the Blue Devils got hot and pulled away for a 64-53 win at Madison Square Garden.
“I think we executed early and we played with a lot of energy,” ASU point guard Derek Glasser said. “We just couldn’t make that shot we needed down the stretch.”
Glasser and freshman Trent Lockett led ASU with 13 points each against Duke, this despite Lockett having to sit out big chunks of the game with foul trouble.
LSU (3-1) was sent to the consolation game after getting beat 81-55 by No. 13 Connecticut on Wednesday.
LSU’s top scorer, Tasmin Mitchell, had just nine points, and Bo Spencer five against UConn. Spencer briefly left the game with about 15 minutes remaining after hurting his right ankle while losing control going up for a layup.
