TUCSON — Ian Kennedy pitched two scoreless innings in his first start for the Arizona Diamondbacks, a 9-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies in a game between split squads that was called after 5½ innings Sunday because of rain.
Kennedy walked one and gave up two hits. He was sent to the Diamondback by the Yankees in a three-team trade this winter. He is expected to be Arizona's No. 4 starter.
Rockies left-hander Franklin Morales allowed eight runs in 1 2-3 innings. Morales, who is expected to start the season in the Colorado bullpen, gave up three-run home runs to Stephen Drew and Rusty Ryal. He also balked and walked two.
Arizona closer Chad Qualls threw a 1-2-3 inning in his first appearance since dislocating his knee in August.
