Preseason All-American Ike Diogu scored 20 of his 28 points in the second half to lead Arizona State to a 94-74 men’s college basketball exhibition victory over the Basketball Travelers on Monday night at Wells Fargo Arena.
Diogu, who also grabbed 10 rebounds, shot 10-for-13 from the field and 7-for-7 at the foul line in his first action of the preseason. The sophomore forward sat out last week’s exhibition game against the EA Sports All-Stars with a right hip strain.
Arizona State was up only 40-36 at the break but started the second half with a 16-2 run and led comfortably the rest of the way.
Six Arizona State players scored in double figures, including three of the team’s newcomers. Freshman Keith Wooden scored 11, while junior-college transfer Steve Moore and freshman Tron Smith added 10 apiece.
Jason Braxton, the team’s only other returning starter, scored 10. Ed Williams led the Basketball Travelers with 23 points.
