Will the Force be strong again at Firebird International Raceway?

NHRA Funny Car legend John Force won his 115th event Sunday at Firebird. Daughter Ashley will attempt to make it a Force of two in her Top Alcohol Dragster this weekend in the NHRA Pacific Division Opener.

The event is part of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, which serves as the minor leagues for the NHRA’s premiere division, the Powerade Drag Racing Series.

Ashley, 22, won six events last season as a rookie in the Top Alcohol Dragster category, earning awards as driver and rookie of the year in the NHRA’s South Central Division. She finished fourth nationally in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.

The World of Outlaws Sprint Series makes its only Arizona stop this season, tonight and Saturday at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix.

Steve Kinser leads a pack of drivers known as the "Mean 15," all of whom are under contract to drive in all 90 series races this season. Kinser is a 19-time series champion with 514 career wins.

Tonight’s feature race pays $5,000 to the winner and Saturday’s main event is worth $12,000 to the victor.

Grammy Award-winning rockers Velvet Revolver will perform following the IndyCar Series’ XM Satellite Radio Indy 200 at Phoenix International Raceway March 19.

They’ll play as part of PIR’s Speed Jam, an event with bands, interactive racing demonstrations and freestyle motocross performances, located outside of Turn 2.

A $20 race ticket gets you into Speed Jam. To order, call 1-866-408-7223 or visit

Scottsdale’s Arie Luyendyk Jr. will be without a ride in this weekend’s season-opening Indy Racing League Infiniti Pro Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Luyendyk told business associates this week that California-based AFS Racing pulled the plug on a plan to have him drive in the series.
