Arizona State junior tight end Zach Miller and senior defensive end Loren Howard were named to the 2006 Award Watch Lists for the Maxwell Award and Chuck Bednarik Award, respectively.
The Maxwell Award is given annually to the college football player of the year and the Chuck Bednarik Award is presented to the outstanding defensive player of the year.
Miller enters his junior season at or near the top of several career statistical categories for an ASU tight end. He is currently tied at the top of the list for career touchdowns (11), is ranked second in receptions (94) and fourth in receiving yards (1,028).
Howard sat out last season after transferring to ASU from Northwestern. He finished his three-year Northwestern career fifth in the school history in both sacks (11) and tackles for loss (34).
Two players on the Arizona State water polo team have been selected to compete for their respective junior national teams this summer. Rowie Webster, the team’s leading scorer, was selected to the Australian Junior National Team while Addison Doud was named to the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team.
The Arizona Game and Fish Department has extended the deadline for applying online for the 2006 fall big game hunts for another 24 hours, until 7 p.m. today.
The deadline is being extended because technical problems with the online application system prevented some customers from submitting their application by the original June 13 deadline.
