The Arizona State women’s basketball team landed its second major transfer Monday when Tennessee post Sybil Dosty got her official release from the Volunteers and opted to come to Tempe next season.

The 6-foot-3 sophomore led the Volunteers in field goal percentage each of her two seasons there but decided that ASU coach Charli Turner Thorne’s inside-out style was a much better fit for her talents.

“I wasn’t unhappy here at Tennessee, but I was looking to go somewhere and be even happier,” said Dosty, who played sporadically last season with the Vols, averaging 10.3 minutes.

“With my skill set, I think I will be better suited at ASU because they work from the inside out whereas at Tennessee the post players are used more to just rebound and set screens. I can do that, but with what else I can do I think I can help in other ways.”

Dosty played high school ball at Tucson Salpointe and was named the Gatorade player of the year for Arizona after her senior season in 2003-04.

She averaged 2.9 points and 2.9 rebounds for Tennessee last season.

Dosty and recent University of Minnesota transfer Lauren Lacy (6-2) will both sit out next season, per NCAA rules, before playing their first games as Sun Devils.

Dosty plans to finish her spring semester at Tennessee and then return to

Arizona in early May.
