ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Julie Briody scored 24 points and 23rd-ranked New Mexico converted 27 of 30 free throws in a 62-51 victory over Northern Arizona on Thursday night.
The victory was the ninth straight for the Lobos (10-2), who are undefeated at home at 7-0. The loss snapped a two-game win streak for the Lumberjacks (7-5).
New Mexico converted 16 straight free throws in the second half to stave off Northern Arizona, which rallied from a 37-22 deficit to close within 51-45 with 2:24 remaining on a Megan Porter free throw and layup.
New Mexico went nearly 5 1/2 minutes between field goals, following a Briody layup at the 6:20 mark. But during that period, the Lobos were 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.
Dionne Marsh added 12 points for the Lobos, while Angela Hartill scored 10 off the bench.
Alyssa Wahl had 15 points for the Lumberjacks. Sade Cunningham added 13.
New Mexico led 33-20 at halftime, with Briody leading the way with 12 points. The Lobos outscored the Lumberjacks 10-0 from the free-throw line in the first half.
Northern Arizona finished 6-for-10 from the free-throw line.
