Let the kickoffs commence. Who cares if the thermostat still cruises past the century mark? We say it’s fall.

Football begins anew tonight at Phoenix College, an early TV showcase featuring two perennial playoff teams. Such talk is premature on this first unofficial day of autumn, but someday soon it won’t be. So sit back and let the next 11 weeks reveal itself the only way it should: On high school gridirons beneath the lights.

BASEBALL

The Chandler Hamilton Huskies 14-and-under team scored nine runs in the second inning Wednesday on the way to a 19-0 win over the Virginia state champs in Babe Ruth World Series action at Glen Allen, Va.

Zach Cogan went 3-for-4 with a home run. Zak Johnson, Parker Osborne, Josh Lee and Chaz Tucker added two hits apiece for the Huskies. The Huskies play in the quarterfinals tonight against the Mid-Atlantic champion from Nottingham, N.J.

ARENA FOOTBALL

The Rattlers have named Skip Foster as the team’s new offensive coordinator and assistant head coach, the team’s head coach Kevin Guy announced.
