What’s being called Arizona’s largest Giant Lego Menorah will be built during the annual Hanukkah event at Arizona Mills mall, 5000 Arizona Mills Circle, Tempe.

Construction will begin at 5 p.m. Dec. 20 in the food court and is organized by Rabbi Mendy Deitsch of the Chabad of the East Valley and the Camp Gen Israel team.

Activities continue until 6:30 p.m. The rabbi said building the menorah from Legos was intended to “keep kids at the edge of their seats.” Planned are holiday music and Hanukkah treats, with all children getting gifts. Children will be invited to participate in the construction of the Lego menorah, and, when it is completed, lanterns will be put inside it. According to the plan, the menorah will use 4,000 Legos and stand about 6 feet tall. “The message of Hanukkah is about ‘overcoming,’ in keeping with Hanukkah’s message,” Deitsch said.
