A new database will help prevent people from purchasing vehicles and boats damaged during Hurricane Katrina.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau created an online database listing VIN numbers of vehicles and HIN numbers of boats to protect buyers from fraudulent sellers.

The bureau identified and cataloged damaged vehicles and boats following the hurricane.

Potential buyers can type in the VIN or HIN numbers and follow instructions on the computer screen.

Visit www.nicb.org to run a VIN or HIN number or for information.
