Gilbert Days Parade

There’s nothing quite like a parade. Thanks to some last-minute fundraising, the annual Gilbert Days parade will continue this year. Kicking off at 9 a.m. on Saturday, it will follow Gilbert Road, starting at Juniper Street and continuing down to Civic Center Drive. Following the parade, there will be an after-party at Gilbert Town Center featuring live entertainment, food, rides, prizes and more.

'The Wedding Singer’

The stage adaptation of the hit movie, this musical comedy set in the 1980s tells the tale of a wedding singer and his search for love. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Queen Creek Performing Arts Center, 22149 E. Ocotillo Road.

Pull on your legwarmers. “The Wedding Singer” is bringing the 1980s back to Mesa and Phoenix. The musical crammed full of ’80s pop-culture and ’80s-esque songs is based on the 1998 film starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. Nominated for five 2006 Tony Awards (including Best Musical and Best Musical Score), the traveling production stars ASU alumna and pro thespian April Monte in the role of Holly.

Mesa may have a sleepy reputation these days, but it wasn't always so. "Mesa is an Old West town, founded in the 1870s. It's rich in pioneer history and territorial history, and some key people in Western history passed through here. School Boy Humor to play Friday in Mesa

In support of their self-titled album release this year, emo-pop group School Boy Humor is making their way around the country and breaking into the music business. The band has played in basements and hometown clubs and have finally started to appear on the national scene. Their song “Camera Shy” is on “Tap Tap Revenge,” a game for iPhone, and they visit Mesa’s Eikon Arts Nov. 6. Band member Caleb Spillyards answered some questions about the tour and music via e-mail:
