About TIE

WELCOME
Tribune In Education provides classrooms with free online newspapers, which include three serialized children's fiction stories each school year. In addition to the traditional K-12 schools, TIE serves diverse learners of every age. Charter and private schools, adult education programs, family literacy, juvenile detention, and college students are all eligible for TIE services.

Schools located in the current delivery area, (listed as follows), TIE participants of the East Valley & Scottsdale Tribune and the Sun City Daily Sun-News receive the digital delivery of the newspaper, which includes the searchable newspaper archive database. We supports educators with free study guides to aide in creating meaningful cross-curriculum and basic skills lessons utilizing "the living textbook - newspapers."

WHAT IS TIE?
TIE is the Tribune's commitment to literacy. This nonprofit program provides access to the paper, thematic units, lesson plans and curriculum guides at no cost to schools and educators at every level, including home schools and family literacy classrooms.

Newspapers are a living textbook - one that is always current, more appealing and less intimidating than regular course books. Critical thinking is the natural outgrowth of using a newspaper to learn. Unlike textbooks, which may be outdated by the time they get into student's hands, the newspaper expands the curriculum with an unlimited amount of information to use as background for learning activities.

Most importantly, as the cornerstone of civics literacy, the newspaper transforms students into interested active citizens.
