SAVE MESA LUTHERN HOSPITAL!!My sister was born there, my father and brother died there! It is our neighborhood hospital. It is part of the social fabric of NW Mesa! Suggest removal of this comment

Thankfully I live much further east. Because there's no way Mesa General is going to be able to take up the slack. Suggest removal of this commentSeptember 17, 2007

Why is this hospital closing? We need all of them. I don't like Banner Desert at all. Always busy & noisy. It has been like that for years. I hate going there. Suggest removal of this commentSeptember 17, 2007

New hospital that is replacing banner Mesa is at Higley and US 60. Much nicer facility with modern technology. All but 1 of my kids were born at Mesa Luthern (Banner Mesa). Look forward to new location. Suggest removal of this commentSeptember 17, 2007
Very sad RN
I am going to miss this hospital, I volunteered here, did my nursing clinicals, and was my first job after nursing school. It is a great hospital with great, dedicated staff that has remained in the hospital for 30+ years, some since it has opened. I think Banner has made a mistake in closing the hospital, not only for the employees, but for the community. The new hospital is great, but it is not Mesa Lutheran! Did you people read any of the prior articles about this hospital??? It was cheaper to build a new one than to bring this one up to code. If it can't handle the new technology, why keep it open? Now you Mesans will have more money to spend on Waterworld. Suggest removal of this comment

I understand fully that it was cheaper to just build a new hospital. That makes sense. My question is what are they going to do with this building? Knock it down? Leave it empty and allow it to get covered in graffiti? In all the articles that I've read, I've never seen that questioned answered. Maybe I missed it, but what is the plan? How about turning it into affordable housing? Suggest removal of this commentSeptember 18, 2007

I just want to thank the Drs. and nurses who worked at theta hospital. I had a son who fought cancer for 3 1/2 years. We went to several hospitals. Mesa Banner had the best Drs. and nurses. Dr. Crouch (I think that was his name), in the emergency room found my son's cancer, and helped us several times during those years. They were very compassionate people! I hope they all move to the new hospital!! Suggest removal of this commentSeptember 18, 2007
Chance to improve neighborhood
The building should be used for something that will improve the value of the community and its image. Transforming it into affordable housing seems like a terrible idea if it means making one giant low income project building, that lowers the land value of the entire community. It should be high dollar value condos at the very least and another hospital or shopping center at the best. Suggest removal of this commentSeptember 18, 2007
No Affordable Housing
For those who have never set foot in this neighborhood, the hospital is across the street from two "affordable" housing developments to the north at at 424 and 454 W. Brown Rd, as well as other low-rent multitenant units to the south. They are a scourge on the community. The last thing the neighborhood needs is more of the same.I had been hopeful that Banner would expand the hospital and acquire those developments to turn them into medical office space. Hopefully some investor will see the value in the existing infrastructure and find a hospital business model that works in this location. Suggest removal of this comment
