When Pat Tillman set aside his NFL career in 2002 to serve his country in Afghanistan, he set an example for all Americans by serving a cause greater than his own. Following his death in 2004 while serving with the U.S. Army 75th Ranger Regiment, his family and friends found a way to ensure his example would continue. Through the Pat Tillman Foundation, veterans, active service members and their spouses receive resources and scholarships — support that is funded through proceeds raised from Pat’s Run.
You can be part of Tillman’s legacy by helping with Pat’s Run, a 4.2-mile run/walk April 21 that starts at the east side of Sun Devil Stadium at Arizona State University. The Kiwanis Club of Tempe is seeking volunteers for pre-race week, April 18-20, to help with packet pick-up. Many other race-related volunteer opportunities are also listed on the Pat Tillman Foundation website. Go to www.pattillmanfoundation.org, click on Pat’s Run, and then click on Volunteer to learn more.
