Who: Jim Ashcraft, 60, of Mesa, a field technician for an engineering company.
How the collection began: As a child I built model cars. When I got older, I got into other things and I gave the cars away. Two years ago I was injured and started building the cars again.
How many: Close to 1,000.
Where you showcase your collection: In my workroom in my home I have several bookcases, and every shelf is full of my little cars.
The prized one: 1937 Ford Roadster with trailer.
What else you collect: Collector plates, ball caps and Playboy magazines.
