Every day, more press releases come in to the newsroom about area shelters overflowing with cats. The latest comes from Maricopa County Animal Care and Control, whose shelters around the Valley are quickly filling up with litters of kittens and "desperate housecats" that need some extra care.
The county shelter has lowered the cost of cat adoptions for the summer, and the fee for cats over 1 year old is being waived. Kittens are $80. All of the animals have been spayed or neutered, received a 3-in-1 vaccination and rabies vaccination (if over 3 months).
The county is also urging current cat owners to spay or neuter their pets, keep them indoors and be sure to keep an ID tag on them.
