Calling all runners, joggers and walkers: The Tempe 5K for Healthy Kidneys is open for registration.
The March 25 run, beginning at 8 a.m. in Kiwanis Community Park, supports the Alport Syndrome Foundation, which raises funds for the rare genetic kidney disease that causes progressive kidney deterioration and profound hearing loss. The majority of those diagnosed are young men who require dialysis or a kidney transplant by their early 20s.
Early registration for the 5K is $30 for adults and $15 for children 13 and younger. Online registration is available at www.active.com or participants may register at any Sole Sports Running Zone location for a $5 discount. Commemorative t-shirts for the first 250 registrants and post-race refreshments and entertainment will be provided.
