Righties believe the ONLY purpose of Government is WAR ... of course they like to call it " defense ".
Ignore the fact there hasn't been an organized enemy capable of actually threatening the U.S. since the end of WW II.
Not to say they can't and haven't attacked and done some damage ... but they don't threaten our EXISTENCE as a country.
The U.S. spends more on WAR than the rest of the world combined!!!!!! [sad]
But the Republicans always say we can't afford to put more money in education or social services. Even if we weren't constantly at war it is against their philosophy to help the weaker members of society. They believe the rich are superior because they are rich and the fact they are rich proves they are superior.
And, we should ask ourselves ... what would we do with all the members of the Armed Forces if we DIDN'T try to be the world's policeman. We have millions of unemployed now and to trim the Armed Forces would make that situation much worse.
The problem is ... paying for our military activities.
The countries where we have bases should PAY THE ENTIRE COST OF OPERATING THOSE BASES INCLUDING THE SALARIES OF THE PERSONNEL STATIONED THERE.
Why are we paying for the defense of these other countries?

Obama was inducted into the Nobel Peace Prize hall of fame. Hmmmm, let's review-----attacked Libya, continually sends drones into Afganistan, We are involved in the Congo. Muslim Brotherhood now has a foothold in Egypt, Tunisia, and Libya. This president demands Israel give up her borders to pre-1967 areas. Doesn't sound like a peace-loving type. Arizona Willie: While I agree that we need to cut back defending certain areas (LIKE KOREA), et al, I think it would be a mistake if we didn't continue our fight in the two countries you mentioned. The primary reason is that it would make it look like we "lost" in our fight. Also, I say it's better that the fight IS HAPPENING in another country, and not in Downtown NY. Better that our well trained soldiers deal with it than John Q Public.
I also am an Independant, but a conservative one....
