“So the Tribune editorial writer thinks that it is not a tragedy that thousands of teachers are losing their jobs across the state (Our View, Wednesday). I think that it is a tragedy, because these good people in our society spent millions of dollars and thousands of hours on getting their education to help the youth of America. I challenge your editorial writer to spend just two weeks in a classroom.”

“Thank you Arizona Diamondbacks for making a ballgame affordable. With your new food value items and reasonabl(y) priced tickets, my wife and I enjoyed the home opener for an amazing low total of only $35. That even included the light-rail ride down to the ballpark. We’ll be back for many more games this season.”

“The government is borrowing so much money I’ve given up the thought of my grandkids and their kids ever paying it back in their lifetimes. Now I’m deadly afraid Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia will be in such bad shape they will not have money to make sure The Force will be with them. ”

“I am an independent. It makes no difference if you are Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, or don’t even vote. Please come to Gilbert Civic Center on Wednesday between noon and 1 p.m. to lend you voice in telling our politicians, all politicians, to stop the spending insanity. This isn’t a one-party outrage. Democrats and Republicans are spending our money like drunken sailors on leave — with apologies to drunken sailors.”

“We have sky marshals, why not have water marshals? For any owner of a ship to send it into waters where there is piracy taking place and not have their crew armed must have a lot of political blood in them — which means they are not too smart.”

“What a great deal! The government wants to count all the illegal (immigrants) in the census. I am all in favor of this move and think that we should let the states in the northern tier use the lower part of Canada in their count also. They are great folks and would enable those states to probably get a new representative in Congress. What a deal, huh?”

“As I drove along, I spied a church building whose name was not familiar to me. I marveled, and then felt great satisfaction for the metropolis in which we live. The marvel is that there are so many churches in our community. The satisfaction is that there are so many people living here who believe in a supreme being, and who back their belief by giving their support

to so many religious communities. Ours is a blessed land!”
