Why don’t the weeds freeze too?

If we truly want to protect our children rather than pursue what will be completely ineffective gun controls that have been tried and have failed miserably, why don’t we try actually protecting the children? (If you) go to any elementary school, if you want to walk around the property pretty much unchallenged for 15-30 minutes, you will have no problem doing so, I guarantee it. If you are carrying a duffel bag you may only get 5-10 minutes but the fact is you can have pretty much all the access you want for at least a few minutes.

Conservatives are willing to use a gun to protect themselves and others, while Liberals huddle in a corner on their phone hoping someone with a gun shows up in time to save them!

I understand the NFA is offering a limited edition assault rifle to defend yourself from possible government takeover. If you act now, they will throw in a bottle of Kraft bar-b-q sauce, a handsome cremation urn plus an autographed picture of David Koresh.

President Obama is really starting to show a lot of leadership. He refuses to negotiate with terrorists. Whether they are economic terrorists in congress, AK 47 toting terrorists in the mideast, or even the ones who tote in the United States, he still refuses to negotiate. His high capacity for what is right outweighs any other form of high capacity.

Today President Obama surrounded himself with children as he spoke about gun control and how the children who were killed in Newtown won’t have the opportunity to grow up. Isn’t that hypocritical when he is a strong supporter of abortion and the killing of innocent babies who will never have the opportunity to live and grow up.

The greatest threat to our way of life is conservative talk radio. The president needs to issue an executive order banning all these promoters of hate. Of course, our way of life is now replete with government extravagance, abuse of the Constitution, crony capitalism, unfathomable debt and corruption at high places. Yes, the American Right really hates — hates how the liberals have destroyed our country.

I think Congress should blow off Obama’s demand to increase the debt ceiling. He has known for over a year this day was coming and all he has done continued to burn tax dollars as fast as he can. Let Obama and the Democrats oversee the U.S.A.’s default that they have created.

If our debt goes up by $3 trillion or more in the next four years, which I think it will, it means that Obama will have raised our debt by more in eight years than all his predecessors combined. If that’s not irresponsible and unpatriotic, I don’t know what is!

When politicians talk about ‘saving money’ shouldn’t they really be saying ‘borrowing Less Money’?

I would like to invite EVERYONE from the EVT forums ( and staff too ) to go to ted.com for the TED talks.

Look up the one by Jonathan Haight. It is about common threats and common ground.

I would love to hear everyone's reaction to this presentation.

    I think it is fantastic.

    ted.com/talks

    Then search for Jonathan Haidt.

When I went there just now using my Chrome browser instead of the Windows 8 app his lecture was on the right side down about 6 or so. A different browser may or may not show him listed the way Chrome does.

Any way --- this video is REALLY good for people of all political persuasions.

This is a direst question to the Tribune. Why do you keep printing the same letters from the right by the same people, when all they do is write letters with out truth, logic or commonsense as long as they make derogatory comments against the right? But you ignore or even delete some commits with facts from the left. Are you running your own politics agenda?

Are you suggesting there is only one "truth" in this forum????

I see no monopoly (on the right or the left) on who offers ridicule, instead of reasoned expression. Sophisticated snobbery is offensive, no matter the source.

I like seeing source references, because that usually signifies that the writer is using something other than emotions to support his point of view.

Well, this edition of Vent has, as its best post, a lament that the cold didn't destroy the weeds...

Ever get the feeling you're living in a complete vacuum of intelligent thought?

Personally, I'd rather see an impassioned OPINION, devoid of buzz words and manipulative ranting, than a fully-linked and referenced regurgitation of someone else's opinion--any day...as far as credibility, it's a toss-up...

I think some of us need to lighten up on some of the venter's sarcasm. How could you not laugh at the one about weeds?
Truth, I have a question for you. I will pick just two vents #3 and #6, now explain to us how these two vents were full of lies, lacked logic and common sense? I found them to be dead on!

Reminds me of the mystery of why is it when you put two socks in the dryer sometimes only one comes back out? [wink]

Onerebel: we will start with #6, 88% of Americans support requiring background checks on people buying guns at gun shows, 65% support banning high capacity ammunition clips, and 58% support a ban on assault weapons. Americans also support a law requiring a armed guard in every school in the nation by a 55% to 42% margin.
The Washington post ABC News Poll
Now we can go to #3. I am a Liberal, I am not a want-a-be. For 12 years I was required by civil government to carry a firearm, I have a masters rating in the PPC (practical police course) I also have a masters rating in the FBI course, I have looked down the barrel of many guns, I have had people try to stab me, I once held off 16 Hells Angles with a 12 guage shotgun who were involved with a murder of a mother and her son. Before you call a liberal a coward you need to open your eyes. I HAVE DONE THE WALK, ALL YOU HAVE DONE IS THE TALK

Onerebel P.S. one more thing there is a old saying, it go as follows, "when the lead starts to fly you don't care what color the uniform is only that they are there", there are many liberals and conservatives that I have been grateful to have as my backup.

I did laugh at the one about the weeds...that's why it was the best vent. By a wide margin! And, why it was also sad, because it was the best vent. By a wide margin...

Unless, of course, one actually believes that Conservatives (actually Regressives) are the only people who have guns (Vent #3).

Actually, upon re-reading #4, it was actually pretty funny and inventive. I like the reference to Koresh, and a complimentary cremation urn...(so much for the defense of one's home arguement, as a reason for having guns lying about...might have worked, before the 20th century). Seems rather funny that a person who firmly believes that an armed citizenry is all that's keeping the government from tyranny, would, in the same breath, insist that Unions don't have the same role, when it comes to tyranny in the workplace.

Onerbel, Associated Press, A Pew Research Center poll finds 63% of U.S. adults oppose to overturn compaired to 60% in 1992. The global abortion rate remains virtually unchanged from 2003-2008 at about 28 abortions per 1,000. According to the study the rate has prviously been dropping since 1995. 47,000 women died from unsafe abortions in 2008 and another 8.5 million women have serious medical complications.

Do your own research, if abortions were illegal in the U.S. what would be the results?

Truth, WOW, sounds like your a regular 007 if that's true. I have noted on here before that I have had the honor of raising my hand and swearing an oath to protect my country over 27 years ago. I currently work with law enforcement and in 2008 received one of their highest awards given. However I only found myself looking down the business end of a barrel once, thank God. I have found myself in the middle of some Hells Angles once but they they didn't seem to want any trouble either. Maybe I was just lucky or had better communication skills? So if you think that I am just talk well that's fine with me. Now for vent #6. Did the President surround himself with children, talk about gun control and mention how those killed would not have a chance to grow up? Does he support abortion? Will those aborted babies also not have a chance to grow up? What was untrue about that vent? Now Vent#3, it may exaggerate a little, after all MOST Liberals are not James Bond's, so they do not own or use guns. In that case they will be "hiding in a corner on their phone waiting for someone with a gun to show up and save them"!

onerebel, I answered your challenge, now you respond to my challenge. What would happen if abortions we illegal in the U.S.? State facts to back them up. Onerebel you are right you communications skills are the most important asset. This took place in 1970 the news media, who are usually wrong, place the number of Hells Angles at 500. I personaly saw around 200. They were there to munder a procteced witness who testified against them. When there are just a few they can be quite charming but when their numbers increase they can be quite aggressive especially with the heavy drinking. We were ordered by our commander to vacate the scene because there were no available personnel to assist and we had no knowledge of a murder. This was during Ronald Reagan's recession and we were running on a skeleton crew. Now, are you going to answer my question? what would happen if Abortions were illegal in the U.S.? Also where did you get your information liberals don't have guns and don't know how to use them?

First off Truth, thanks for serving your country. To set the record strait I do not support abortion except to save the mothers life, because of God's will not mine. I don't know how anyone can support late term abortions or abortions just because of the sex or race of the child. You want some facts? check out this site with pictures and tell me it's just a blob of flesh!
    http://www.priestsforlife.org/resources/abortionimages/index.htm
I said MOST Liberals do not have guns and I stand by it. Are you trying to tell me that the same Liberals that are screaming for in many cases the elimination of ALL guns, have guns themselves that they want confiscated? I have several friends, family and coworkers that are Liberals. Only a few have EVER shot a gun, and only one currently has one for hunting. The rest all support some type of confiscation or ban, and yes a couple of these people work in Law Enforcement administration. By the way, I had to chuckle how you had to throw in " during Ronald Reagan's recession". We'll see how Obama handles his recession, it's been over four years and he said that he needed just a little more time. Time will tell! [wink]

onerebel, you asked " Are you trying to tell me that the same Liberals that are screaming for in many cases the elimination of ALL guns, have guns themselves that they want confiscated? "

The Liberals calling for gun control ( especially those wanting guns banned ) are a minority of Liberals just as the Conservatives calling for succession because we have a black President are a minority.

And, people on these extremes sell newspapers and attract viewers / listeners so the media gives them the attention. The more reasonable people, on both sides, get ignored because they don't make good copy.

Liberals, and Regressives, come in a wide variety of flavors.

People can be Liberal about one subject and Regressive about another.
For instance, I'm a Liberal when it comes to pot and gays. I don't care what gays do or if people wish to partake of the herb. But i'm decidedly anti-Liberal when it comes to illegal immigration. I think EVERY illegal should be deported and made to re-enter the country legally or stay home. I'm distinctly Regressive when it comes to education and think numeric grades should be given and competition for scholatic honors re-introduced into the classroom. Failing should be shameful.

Like most humans, I'm a bag of skin filled with contradictions :)
