Arizona is a great place, especially for those who love the outdoors. Arizona became a state on February 14, 1912 and I am glad it did. During the winter people throughout America in the cold parts travel here to get out of the freezing cold; Arizona has great weather. For outdoorsmen like me, Arizona is the perfect place. There are beautiful hiking trails, amazing fishing lakes, rivers and ponds. And don’t forget the great hunting. The desert, I think, is pretty cool. There are all types of fascinating wildlife and plant life in the desert. Overall there are three reasons why I am proud to be an Arizonan: The weather, the outdoor activities and the desert.
The first reason I am proud to be an Arizonan is because of the weather. We are lucky to not have that many natural disasters. Sure, we have monsoons which can get pretty bad, and we also have some flash floods. But those aren’t as bad as tornadoes, earthquakes or hurricanes. Even though summer is boiling hot, the winter is perfect. People travel here from everywhere just to get out of the cold in their home state.
The second reason I am proud to be an Arizonan is the outdoor activities. I love the outdoors. So do many others, and that makes Arizona the perfect place for them. Arizona is the best place for hikes; there are many great hiking trails like the Grand Canyon trail or many trails on the Superstition Mountains. Arizona is also a fisherman’s best friend. The lower Salt River is just outside of Phoenix, making it a short drive to go out for a day’s fishing trip, and there are more beautiful lakes and rivers up in northern Arizona. Arizona for hunters is also a paradise; the elk are huge in northern Arizona. In southern Arizona, hunters can hunt javelina and the rarely seen Coues deer. Not many hunters get that opportunity.
The final reason I am proud to be an Arizonan is because of the beautiful desert. People assume that the Arizonan desert is just an ugly place with tumbleweeds blowing around; it’s not like that at all. The desert has many nice sights, especially in the spring when the grass is green and the flowers are blooming on the cactus. Even though the desert does get hot, it’s still a neat place.
I would not want to live any other place than right here in our great state. There are many beautiful states to live, but I like Arizona best. I believe Arizona is a great place to live because of the weather, the outdoors and the desert. I’ll be out enjoying the outdoors year round and loving it!
