The vote to keep the Cubs in Mesa is about keeping tax dollars and jobs, and about growing tax dollars and jobs. A recent letter from a misinformed Mesa resident argues that saving tax dollars and jobs isn’t worth his yes vote on Proposition 420.

I disagree. At a time when jobs and tax revenue are hard to come by, why on earth would we vote to send a coveted corporate partner like the Cubs packing? Why would we say we don’t care about the annual $138 million impact the team has on Mesa and the Valley?

And why would we oppose keeping a business that generates tourism and is directly linked to almost 1,600 permanent jobs?

Perhaps the writer has no need for a job, a healthy city or the benefit of the business the Cubs will bring to the community, but the rest of Mesa cannot afford to lose the Cubs. Not now. Not ever!

John Dennett, Mesa
