Letter writer Terrie Johnson (Dec. 18) is mad that a political group with whom she disagrees would call themselves “Patriots.” Johnson apparently has very strong notions of what a patriot can and cannot believe politically.

She labels the East Valley Patriots “misguided individuals” or, gasp, “progressive liberals.” Worse, she calls it a “subversive group.”

Is that her idea of patriotism? Demonizing those who disagree with you?

By the way, what parts of the Utah Compact and the emerging Arizona Compact does she find subversive? I find both refreshingly honest approaches to the immigration debate.

The East Valley Patriots and the “Utah Compact” groups/supporters are for amnesty for all of the illegal immigrants that are here . . . and that won’t solve our immigration problems.

Utah Compact does not discourage illegal immigration, Mr. Bill Gates . . . It does quite the contrary.

But Bill, as you probably know,

The Utah Compact can be a part of a sensible reform of immigration law.

Accuracy, are you willing to join with me in hoeing in this spring's lettuce crops west of Pheonix? Or would you permit such things as the Utah Compact to make is possible for US agriculture to be competitive with agriculture south of the border?
