Why should students (or any other illegal immigrant) get any special rights like the Democrats are proposing to be an American citizen vs. the person from a foreign country immigrating to the U.S. via the lawful process? Anyone here in the United States illegally should be deported back to their country and pursue the legal way of entering the United States. That's called the Rule of Law (which Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano is sworn to uphold, but apparently isn't as the Democrats simply try to buy votes). I did not read in the article any comment/fact by any of the students or Napolitano that any one of the students has applied for legal citizenship. Why haven't these educated illegal alien students learned this process and submitted their application for citizenship? That should be their Dream Act!

As with most laws, they are subject to interpretation. However, the Dream Act at face value seems to be a win win stituation for the illegal minor and for the US. It allows productive young people of good moral character to become tax paying citizens if they meet the qualifers. Isn't that what we want from illegal aliens?

The Dream Act offers alternative paths for obtaining citizenship, those more amenable to youth. We have had some portions of the Dream Act at work before. There ain't nothing easy about using these alternative pathways.

Dennis, great letter! Illegal means ILLEGAL. No ifs, ands or buts. Other countries are not lenient with their immigration laws so why are we?

No more amnesty period. I don't care who it hurts or whether it's good for all of us. This pattern of allowing people to ignore our laws then demand citizenship needs to stop now. These kids are not my fault. These kids are their parents fault, and they need to go home with their parents.

I have a question for Dennis, Slabside and NothingButTheTruth.

Although, I don't think anyone knows the exact number, the estimate I have heard is that there are over 12 million in this country who are not here legally. My question is: How do you deport over 12 million people? Just asking.

By the way, just to put that 12 million figure into perspective, the combined population of the cities of Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Philadelphia and Phoenix is about 11.5 million

DemocraticDad, first and foremost the border must be sealed. The fence configuration in use near Yuma (triple-and double-layered and 20 feet high), is proving to work quite well and should run the entire length of our southern border.
Secondly, make any entitlements that are available to illegals unavailable.
Third, crack down on ALL businesses and employers that hire illegals with stiff fines and jail time.
By putting these doctrines in place and adhering to them 100% I think you will find illegals lining up in droves to leave our country.
    My humble opinion. [wink]

    You won't need to deport Illegal Aliens if you would only stop;
    1. Giving them jobs.
    2. Giving them Welfare, Hud, Section-8, Food Stamps and medical care.
    3. Refuse to allow any school student in America to be enrolled without showing United States Citizenship.
    4. If an Illegal Alien commits any crime, any crime they should be subject to deportation at that moment.
5.We send billions of dollars of "Aid" to Mexico. We should subtract the cost of booking, processing, court time and jail costs from these billions of Aid.
    6. The President should go on Television and advise "all" Illegal Aliens from whatever Country that they will be given 6 months to leave the United States. After that time all bank accounts, cars, homes and possesions will become the property of the United States.

IN ONE YEAR....THE ILLEGAL ALIEN PROBLEM WILL BE SOLVED.

    Leon,

    1. Jobs, yes that certainly would curtail any incentive to come to the US for work. However, you need to tell your Congressperson not to be influenced by those big corporations with influential lobbiests - like Tyson who hires 1000s of illegals.
    2. Illegals are not eligible for welfare benefits. Medical care yes, as hospitals give care without status of citizenship.
3We have a lot of children in our schools whose parents are not citizens, but I would rather have those children educated than on the streets.
    4. Constitution forbids such action.
    5. Yes perhaps funds should be withheld until Mexico can offer jobs and services for their people. However that is very difficult in a third world country without our help.
    6. Again, our Constitution forbids the President from doing such a thing.

The issue of illegals in this country will not be solved unless we have rational and thoughtful debates to find rational and thoughtful solutions.

DemocraticDad, I think your question was answered well by Slab and Leon. What's really funny is how JSBeals seems to think anyone can invade our country and it's unconstitutional to do anything about it. Come on now, you don't really believe that nonsense do you JSBeals? Criminals have more rights that legal citizens JSBeals?

NBT - I am all for finding a solution for the illegal population in this country. We are a country of laws, whether you or I like the laws or not, they must be followed. Where did I say criminals should have more rights than legal citizens? Don't add to my words.
Do you agree with Leon that the President of the US has the authority go on TV and tell a group of people to leave our country and confiscate their property without Congressional oversight?
Big corporations are holding out carrots to our poorer neighbors to work for very little money under bad conditions. We have stop this practice unless we believe that Americans won't do these lowly jobs for not much pay. Without such jobs in the US, the major reason to cross the border illegally would soon vanish.

For those supporting the proposed dream act, read the danged thing before opening your mouth. It is nothing more than an attempt at amnesty. It has more holes than a piece of well aged Swiss cheese. They didn't even take the time to change the wording from the last attempt. While we may have sympathy for the children, no way should we allow someone 35 years old to use this amnesty piece of your know what as a basis for amnesty. Ditto for grade school drop out homies who obtain a GED. If there was a process an an unbiased board to screen an approve a limited number, I think most folks might go for it.

"Do you agree with Leon that the President of the US has the authority go on TV and tell a group of people to leave our country and confiscate their property without Congressional oversight? "

Funny how a message that targets only criminal alien invaders is twisted to apply to "a group of people".

Would the President going on TV - and warning child molestors that the laws are getting tougher and they better stop their illegal activity - violate the Constitution? OF COURSE IT WOULDN'T! So why would this issue be any different?

JSBeals, would you mind pointing out where in our Constitution rights are given to criminal alien invaders? I have a copy right here, and there's nothing about granting rights to them...but there IS a section on how to deal with enemy combatants!
