Housing is in the dumps in Arizona; Public education is an afterthought; very little has been done to create jobs or energy policies; citizens pass away while waiting for transplants. But gosh darnit, this is important: Arizona lawmakers wanted to require proof of citizenship to run for president. What a shameful thing to waste time and taxpayers’ money on.

I know how you feel, Kristine. It's discouraging to see the antics in this Legislature. But it's important that people speak up. We've got to drum into this Republican super-majority and the governor that there are a lot of us out here with very different priorities for our state.

One opportunity comes Tuesday (April 26) at 6:30 p.m. in the old City Council chambers on the 2nd flood of Chandler's downtown Public Library building. Legislative District 21 Democrats will host a "Community Conversation" on what state spending priorities should be. It's open to all.

    bgates43,

Sounds interesting. As a Barry Goldwater conservative, if I bring my birth certificate, may I come?

I'm not to sure I wish to drive there to just be bored. With gas at 4 is it worth about 5 bucks?

    "Citizenship crusade"

Governor Jan Brewer vetoed the bill passed by Arizona Legislature requiring presidential candidates to submit a birth certificate before being allowed on their ballot. Brewer said the birth certificate bill her Legislature passed was simply "a bridge too far."

Measures requiring presidential candidates to provide proof of citizenship in order to get on the state's ballot have been proposed by state legislatures in at least 7 other states this year. Georgia, Connecticut and New Hampshire are among them. This means the citizenship crusade (on state's ballot) is in the Republican’s mainstream.

The legislature needs to vote for people that don't have enough money to pay their mortgage payments (when they adjust) not to be able to buy a house. Then, they need to create laws that make parents become involved in their childrens education. If there is still time, they should create laws that make governments stay out of the way of the private sector which is the only place where jobs are created that enact productivity and pay for themselves with the goal of profit. Yes, many other things they could spend their time on. Oops, I don't think that is what she meant.......

    Dale,
You can definitely come. We'd love to have you. And you don't need a birth certificate either. By the way, Barry Goldwater would have clamped down hard on that Republican birther blather. It's a giant diversionary tactic and a useless waste of time.

Hope to see you Tuesday night.

    bgates43,

Apparently but for the increased cost of gasoline Smitty would be joining us. Obviously you are a registered Democrat, active in party politics, who also appreciates where Mr. Conservative was coming from. Today's Neo-conservatives haven't a clue.

Not sure I agree with Accuracy. Birtherism is in a stream alright, but not a main stream. Palin, Bachmann, Rove, even O'Reilly have critized it. Only Trump and Huckabee seem to be infected with it. I'd say that like other systemic diseases Britherism is an infection of the blood stream. And as Accuracy accurately points out, it is contageous.

The national news media will not allow any discussion of the topic of President Barack Obama’s birth certificate . . . even the fact that the Ninth U.S. Federal Circuit Court of Appeals (Pasadena division) has agreed to hear oral arguments, on May 2, 2011, in a case alleging that Barack Obama is not eligible to serve as president of the United States.

While practically everyone in the mainstream news media denounced Donald Trump for asking questions about Obama’s birth certificate, millions of Americans responded positively. More and more Americans have questions on this issue and they will not automatically vanish.

The question is NOT whether they think Barack Obama was born outside the United States?

The big question is why President Barack Obama Has Not released his “long form birth certificate?”

The same original birth certificate (issued by the official custodian of birth records in the country of birth showing the date and place of birth and the parents) that each and every American must present to U.S. Department of State, U.S. Passport Agencies to qualify for a passport, and to get a passport.

Dale: Get off the Neo-con kick. It is childish and makes you sound like a member of La Raza.
