Are we, as a community, being too hard on Mark Grace the man? I look back when Jerry Colangelo got Mark Grace to come here, for a reduction in salary, with a mutual vision of being World Series champion. Was Mark a great leader on the field, in the locker room, and in our community? Was he an integral part of getting the Diamondbacks to the World Series? Did he and Curt Schilling keep their untested and underdog team motivated and loose playing against the established and mighty N.Y. Yankees? You can feel Mark’s passion, spirit and understanding of the game of baseballl when he was broadcasting the D-Back games to us.
Mark has done great community service for his new community through his years in Phoenix. I am proud he lives here in Arizona. I hope Chicago gets him to broadcast the Cubs games. They are certainly more lenient there with broadcasters and players who enjoy a drink or two after the game. I know Mark violated the law with a DUI and is paying for his mistake as a man, but Harry Carey and Bob Prince of the Pirates were known to enjoy a drink or two and their fans and ball club embraced them. People loved their free spirit, enthusiasm, fun way to explain the game and players to us. Mark is a natural, in my opinion, and a throwback to that era. Can we give the man a break?

[sad] I hope you're kidding Dr. Eger. This isn't about having a social drink or two. Mark Grace made the decision not to comply with the court orders from his prior DUI. He was the one driving while intoxicated, driving with a suspended drivers license and not having the court ordered interlock system. Basically, Mark Grace told the court to buzz off. Every action has a reaction, so due to his poor judgement he is looking at a four months with the Department of Corrections and a felony convictions.
Finally, I don't fault the Diamondbacks at all. They gave his a second chance and he blew it. I seriously doubt any major sports team in Phoenix would want a possible felon representing them in the community.

I used to be glad that Mark Grace lived here but I would rather not have to worry about his KILLING one of MY family members because he is too arrogant and self-centered to believe that the DUI laws are to be followed by him along with the rest of the population. He bet it all and lost and as far as I'm concerned, he can go back to Chicago and stay. He was given ample opportunity to stay within the law and keep his job. He chose not to do that. He deserves all the time he will hopefully have to spend behind bars and he should be extremely glad that he didn't kill someone.
