The June jobs report showed growth of 195,000 new jobs with an unemployment rate still at 7.6 percent. New jobs — any jobs — should be celebrated. So why does Washington keep delaying the Keystone XL Pipeline? The project could create as many as 340,000 new high-paying jobs including construction jobs. Not to mention jobs involving the refinement, distribution, maintenance and sale of the oil.
The shipment of Canadian oil through the pipeline is expected to generate more than $30 billion in revenue for the U.S. and deliver more than a million barrels of oil to American refineries — per day! Oil that will come from North America. Not Venezuela. Not the Middle East.
Yet the Obama administration is determined instead to further tax the oil and gas industry and actually kill American jobs. Need proof? Obama’s budget proposes double-taxing American oil and gas industry production. Not to mention that the president’s green energy schemes will actually skew the global energy markets against the U.S.
It’s time for government to stop picking winners and losers and allow American industry and its citizens to thrive.
