Arizona has the ‘Stupid Motorist Law’ for people who continue to challenge the forces of nature with their vehicles. It’s about time we had the ‘Stupid Hiker/Camper Law’ for those who think they can outwit nature/happenstance with their personal abilities. These folks are obviously lacking in common sense and make themselves a liability to the tax payer. I sincerely hope (these people are) held accountable and made to pay monetarily for their ‘stupid’ indiscretions.

You're right Barry, at least for repeaters, since unlike the stupid motorist law they can't prove you know the danger the first time because they can't put barriers up everywhere.

Barry,
It's not quite the same as someone driving through a flooded wash. No one intends to get heatstroke, fall, break a leg or get lost. Although some of the hikers do stupid things.

What we need is a STUPID POLITICIAN LAW: Missouri lawmaker wants to make it a crime for any fellow representative to introduce gun-control legislation. Republican State Rep. Mike Lear's bill would make it a felony to propose any law that would "further restrict the right of an individual to bear arms." Leara concedes his bill won't pass, but says it's a matter of principal."

All the trailheads and starting points for the mountain trails should be sealed off and require a Park Ranger to let people in.
All hikers should be required to show they have a cell phone and maps and GPS and water and food and a tent / sleeping bag at a minimum.
The way we allow ignorant people to go wandering in the desert / mountains is like we just WANT to have an excuse to let the Rescue people do their thing.

To some extent, intelligence is measurable.
Stupidity, however, is boundless...
Creation of laws against stupidity will work about as well as legislating morality--

So true. How about also stupid parent law. How about when the single mother shows up for the second, third, or forth time at the County Hospital to deliver a child she can ill afford and has no father, someone puts the breaks on that. Surely you know that that happens expotentially more than hikers and people who drive through high water- no?
