I was reading an article in the Orange County Register, dated Oct 9, 2012, written by Walter E. Williams, that stated the migration out of California has been around 225,000 people a year for the last decade. I guess the high taxes, rules and regulations are starting to overwhelm the folks and they are leaving. Did you know that California has 1/8 of the U.S. population but 1/3 of the welfare. The article also stated that the top four states to receive these ex-Californians where Nevada, Arizona, Texas and Oregon.

Now we know why Arizona is starting to turn blue. The liberals that can no longer afford California are now coming to Arizona and bringing with them their liberal desires, politics and attitudes.

Or, maybe our state is turning blue because the ultra conservatives are choking the air out of all the rest of us and we are becoming a thinking population.

Randall, when I first moved to AZ in 1981 the facts you state for the last decade were pretty much true then, too. But it is not the liberals from California who are moving east. It's the conservatives who are moving. Why don't you ask a few?

And know this. Orange County is a conservative oasis in otherwise Democratic California. It's Nixon's home. And my oh my what an honest man was he.

Hey, Randall, while you're at it, why don't you tell us about the effects Prop 13 has had on California. That was a conservative idea.

Sorry, Randall, but JMJ and Mr. Whiting's observations are correct. As a former California resident, I can tell you that Orange County is known as "Behind the Orange Curtain". It's the home of the John Birch Society, it's Nixonland, John Wayne Airport, and rampant with conservative regressives. Although I only moved here to be near my aging family members, and for the most part I hate the political climate of the good ol' boy redneck legislative dynasty, I have found plenty of folks here who are progressive and want to change what is wrong with this intellectual wasteland.

Signs are posted in national parks cautioning against feeding the animals.
They become dependent on others for their food and lose the incentive to provide for themselves.

Liberals still have not come to grips with the fact that humans can also become dependent on others and refuse to do for themselves what they feel government should be doing for them.

The government has run out of money and the liberals are leaving for greener pastures where the conservative ethic still predominates.

Too bad for us in Arizona as those jerks are coming here.

Yes, by all means lets become like California, our own little slice of Socialist Utopia.

    Sept 2012 Unemployment 9.7%
    In evil Orange county- 7.1%
    Evil redneck knuckle dragging AZ-8.2%

CA Current debt-about $41 billion-include budget deficit, amount owed to Feds and Schools.
AZ current debt- about $400 million budget surplus-not sure if any owed to feds and schools.

Socialism is great until you run out of other people's money.

Always nice when AZ is called racists or an intellectual wasteland. Then why is it that people keep moving here? Hmmmm. I am sure if you look long enough, you will find some intelligent liberals that you can chat up the benefits of spending more money than taken in.

Considering that it is, usually, right wing conservatives who complain about taxes --- I would think it would be conservatives who were moving out of California.
Liberals, generally, know we need to pay our share of societies costs and for the things we want and need. Only conservatives demand to be tax free while enjoying the benefits paid by Liberal taxpayers.

Yes, sadly, I haven't noticed any influx of sanity, coming from the West. I'd be willing to bet that it's the Tea Party crazies who are moving here, from California, not exactly the Intelligensia...

Arizona may be more Democratic than it used to be, although here, Democratic is actually still to the right of center, by default...

Sorry, the only Progressive population that I've noticed is ASU/Tempe area, and my house...Of course, I don't get out much, these days, so I suppose it's possible that some other neighborhoods in the valley have become more enlightened.

Like--the cemeterys, and the desert--relatively speaking, of course...

Leon--take your meds, ok? (I do hope you were joking, but it is hard to tell, lately.)

Bluepoet, Leon and joke are two words that are often used in the same sentence, but not usually because that is what he is doing.

"Always nice when AZ is called racists [sic] or an intellectual wasteland."

Nice or not, it's a well-earned title, thanks to people like Leon.

Just read his post (if you can) - the lack of intellect, coupled with xenophobia.

It's a relief to know that it's conservatives that are moving here from Cali. we sure as hell don't need any more stupid idiot liberals coming in. By reading the above opines it's apparant that we have enough liberals too last a lifetime (3/4 of a lifetime to long for me).
E V -- Leon is so much more intelligent then you , you're just not able to relize it.
You say it's a well earned title thanks to people like Leon, well you include me in that statement, and if it were not for people like Leon, myself and others like us we could be another no good for nothing left winged liberal state just like California.

AZ WILLIE: You seem to think that conservatives don't believe in paying their share, you could not be any more wrong. We just don't want to pay for all the able bodied people on welfare that don't belong there. There is generations of family members that collect welfare checks, as soon as a child turns 18 they go straight to D E S and sign up for their own check instead of going and looking for a job. You know it's true but yet you DEMS. defend it at all costs and then blame Republicans for trying to fix it.

smartvoter ... PROVE there are generations of families living on welfare.
Please provide a link to a reliable source --- not Faux Entertainment or other right wing hate site.
I don't defend it if they are doing that. So you were wrong once again.
Nor do I blame Republicans for trying to fix it === but I < do > blame them for claiming things that aren't true.
There may be a few case nationwide that haven't been rooted out by the controls put on during Clinton's Presidency -- but not many.
You right winger act like EVERY person on welfare is completely able bodied and able minded and just would rather live on a starvation allotment from welfare than work.

I call BS and say " Prove it ".

Hmm well earned title. I have lived in AZ for 35 years and only met a few peope who were actually racists. I guess racists are in the eye of the beholder.
