Members of churches of many Christian denominations from across the United States will be praying as the nation approaches Election Day, Nov. 6. The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) put together and culminated a massive pre-election prayer vigil to go until voters head to the polls election day.

America is in a state of emergency evidenced by the symptoms of widespread moral depravity and economic meltdown. Education, government, and man’s wisdom cannot solve this problem. The SBC vigil began in September with prayers for revival in the lives of individuals, the churches, and the country. Now is the time for all Americans to choose whom and what they will serve.

2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

More than 1,300 churches have signed up for the prayer campaign. Pray & Act is endorsed by scores of pastors as well as leaders of advocacy groups, including Jim Daly (Focus on the Family) an international Christian communications ministry, Mike Huckabee (former governor of Arkansas) and an ordained Southern Baptist minister, Dr. Richard D. Land (The Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission), Penny Nance (Concerned Women for America), Douglas Napier and Alan Sears (Alliance Defense Fund), Tony Perkins (Family Research Council), Samuel Rodriguez (National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference), and Don and Tim Wildmon (American Family Association). Prayers to focus on wisdom and public officials in voting – We must first understand “what” must be done before we can identify “who” can best help do it.

The focus is on public morality issues, including: pornography, abortion, “family-friendly” policy, marriage is between a man and a woman and must be viewed as sacred, religious liberty, impartial justice, and “the barbaric practice of embryo-destructive stem-cell research.”

There is still an opportunity to enter into a period of unprecedented growth and national Blessing — if we will follow the plan God has for us. It reveals the covenant God made with America and the steps necessary to see the Blessings of heaven showered down on our nation.

Seeking God’s guidance, we stand together praying that God will touch America. We’re Christians that affirm and practice Judeo-Christian values rooted in Biblical authority.

We are praying for “God’s people to vote.”

God save America!

Jack & Nineva Salley

Why wait till November. All life should come together as "One universe under God". Because God is a woman and thinks big.

Engaged Voter…..“pretending a magical sky fairy hears your words”

Sky fairy theory, regarding a sphere of thought, is a comparative science that investigates the life of people as revealed in their “folklore” – which is a mythical being of folklore usually having diminutive human form and magic powers.

    --------------------------------

To Christians “Jesus is Lord”. This month, various Christian prayer organizations and websites have called for intercession before the upcoming November election. They are praying for a spiritual renewal and that Americans would come together as “One nation under God”.

Talking to yourself and pretending a magical sky fairy hears your words is a way to move forward?

By all means, explain that one. ;)

Arizona Willie…..“The focus is on public morality issues” . . . by scores of pastors as well as leaders of advocacy groups who believe it is our duty as well as our privilege to vote, and that our choices can and should be guided by our faith.

To address God – by praying for our world; for our local, state, and national government; is a way for churches to move forward on things Christians care about.

Accuracy ...... you said " To motivate church members to vote wisely in the upcoming election is NOT – in any way – saying anything about voting according to THEIR religious beliefs. "

In the Smalley's view -- voting wisely is voting according to their religious beliefs.

The post by the Salley's said ... " The focus is on public morality issues, including: pornography, abortion, “family-friendly” policy, marriage is between a man and a woman and must be viewed as sacred, religious liberty, impartial justice, and “the barbaric practice of embryo-destructive stem-cell research.”

And it says they are praying for " God's people to vote "

The post implies that if you don't vote according to their beliefs you are not " God's people ".

They are praying for people to vote according to their beliefs.
The post does not say to ' go vote your best interest ".

Arizona Willie claims the letter says; “….if we don't vote according to THEIR religious beliefs, then we are not "God's people".

    Wrong… Arizona Willie.

To motivate church members to vote wisely in the upcoming election is NOT – in any way – saying anything about voting according to THEIR religious beliefs.

Those holding evangelical principles or belonging to evangelical churches in states across the nation are asking people to “pray” now, and to go and “vote” on election day.

Supporters say the critical needs of the world serve as a reminder that the call to prayer is not limited to one day. But they say that days of prayers could change the world for generations to come.

According to Mr. and Mrs. Salley, if we don't vote according to THEIR religious beliefs, then we are not " God's people ".

    So ... evidently then, I must be a " Devil person " ?

    Ohhh how evil I am.

If you don't agree with them ... then God has no use for you and you are not one of " God's people ".

    Bingo6 posted: “…we don't live in a theocracy yet.”

Apparently, Bingo6 does not believe in government of a state by immediate divine guidance or “In God We Trust” as the official motto of the United States.

African American Rev. Fred Luter, president of the 16 million member Southern Baptist Convention, originally designed and began the campaign 40-day prayer vigil before the election.

Many believe these are critical days for America and that prayer is the essential ingredient for us as believers in America and it will make the difference. No specific candidates or political parties should be mentioned, although pertinent issues might be appropriately cited.

Sorry Jack and Nineva we don't live in a theocracy yet, so if Sheeple like yourselves are voting the way your church orders you to, then you have no right to impose your lock stepped beliefs on the rest of us.

I and the rest of us Real American will vote as we determine Not the way your and your and your church wants us too.

You know what since your church wants to tell us how to vote then perhaps it time to tax all your churches as it should be, then we could pay off the deficit tomorrow.

That's right chatty, god < SHOULD > have been left out of the platform.Religion and politics don't mix. Like oil and water. Nothing but trouble comes from combining the two.

Which political party left god out of their party platform? Which political party had trouble getting a reference to god put back in their party platform? Which political party do most of the anti-god commenters on this site support? Ah yes, the liberal/progressive democrat party.

Of the 58 million evangelical Christians who were eligible to vote in the 2008 general election, just 57 percent actually voted.

Democratic Party officials said their choice to hold the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Charlotte, North Carolina to show that they are fighting for the South this November.

Over 9000 people from Charlotte churches came together to pray for the convention, and wanting to extend hospitality to the visitors to their city with gift baskets featuring Carolina Pralines and letters welcoming them to the city. But DNC prohibited the members from the churches, assembled in the Charlotte area, from handing out gift baskets to delegates. The members led by David Benham, called "Charlotte 714" were told by the DNC that this was because of differences in the Democratic Party platform. “I got a call from the mayor’s office speaking on behalf of the convention and they asked us not to participate. They told us our views on women’s rights are contrary to the platform,” said Benham.

Nation-wide, the largest Christian multi-denominations are now praying for "God's grace in America" before the upcoming election. They are asking God to inspire the hearts and minds of the voting public to vote wisely and in conformity with His will.

“My concern is not whether God is on our side. My greatest concern is to be on God’s side, for God is always right.” – Abraham Lincoln

A.J writes "America is in a state of emergency as evidenced by the symptoms of moral depravity and and economic meltdown." Then he cites 2nd Chronicles for the proposition that we Americans must turn from our wicked ways.

Now just how is American wicked? What has it done?

Try asking a foreigner. Even those who have come here to live know about our wicked ways. A.J. hasn't the slightest clue.

We violate the moral code of behavior in foreign last assuming that our ways are better than there ways. We depose democratically elected governments because we do not like who they like. We have our largest international companies rob foreign nations blind.

Yes, A.J. we are a very wicked people. And God will have his way with us. So whether or not we vote for Romney or Obama, we will all loose in the end.

P.S. A.J. Israel did not heed 2nd Chronicles back then and are not heeding it today. So why are we doing business with those heathens?

Given his distain for government bailouts, Mitt Romney " has some akward explaining to do," said Robert Green . A reporter for Rolling Stone has obtained documents that show Romney demanded and got a $10 million handout from the government in the early days of Bains & Co., the private-equity firm that lanched his career. In 1991, the documents show, Bains was on the brink of finanical collapse. Romney responded partly by forcing banks to swallow painful losses on their loans to Bains. He did this by invoking a bizarre clause Bains inserted in loan documents that allowed the company's executives to collect fat bonuses before paying their debts to banks. Rather than get nothing of the $30.6 million Bains owed to troubled banks. the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp, agreed to take $10 million less. The fact that the FDIC is financed by banks rather than directly by taxpayers 'probably makes the word 'bailout ' a strech." But the embarrassing fact remains that Romney helpe save Bains from bankruptcy by geting a eight-figure gift from the government. Economist. Com

    Jack and Nineva,

You lost me at "God's people"...we are all God's people. That is, if there's a God...

Personally, I think they took the G from Good, and made that into someone, and they took the D from Evil, and made that someone, too...the rest is man-made, full of hypocrisy, and dangerously narrow, both in focus and intent.

Please, pray for yourselves first. Once you become perfect, come and pray for me...I'll be waiting (but not holding my breath).

    From Dictionary.com

bully pulpit a position of authority or public visibility, especially a political office, from which one may express one's views.

The Bully Pulpit of Christians vs everyone who doesn't see everything as they do is alive and well in this election, as much as the Moral Majority is/was for decades, now.

When Pat Robertson addressed the ocean pre-hurrican, guess what? The hurricane still hit.

Lord, save me from YOUR people.

The agenda of the far right purports to support life [which I do, as well, I am not pro-abortion, FOR ME OR MINE]. But, once those lives are here, the far right could care less how these lives are affected or hurt or ignored by these churchy types.

Arizonas, vote YOUR conscience. Make up YOUR mind. Look around. We don't need more far right types running this state...into the ground.

God gave us all a brain to USE. I will not be voting for Mittens, sorry.
