Someone tell me if I’m not reasoning properly here; I just viewed the 9 p.m. news on FOX-10 where one of the stories had to do with Sandusky’s recording of riotousness and innocence sent from his cell in ‘Stalag 17.’ The two newscasters were both complaining about reporting the story, thinking they had heard the last of Sandusky. Correct me if I’m wrong but, aren’t the folks who report the news, (media), responsible for it’s content and presentation? I’ll bet there isn’t one viewer who was the least bit interested in Sandusky’s boo-hooing nor the report of Jordan Van Der Sloot effectively sewing his oats in a Peruvian prison.

The news media are controlled by the corporate dollars, do you expect the truth under these conditions?, example the Keystone pipe line that would have been placed over one of the U.S. major AQUIFERS supplying water for TEN northern states. That this pipe line will stop at Arthur refinery controlled by Saudi Arabia and will end at a port to be shipped to Asia. Mitt Romney will allow the Keystone pipe line to be built over that Aquifer.
Uranium mining in the Grand Canyon, The older mines are leaking uraninum into the Colorado Rive already what would happen if we lost the waters from the Colorado river? Mitt Romney will open the Grand Canyon to mining.
Losing Big on sport arenas,But these complexes "rarley bring about the promised prosperity, and instead leave cities and states mired in debt." Take struggling Glendale, Ariz., which recently agreed to pay $324 million over 20 years to keep the Phoenix Coyotes hocky team in town. Already on the hook for $12 millon in annual debt payments for the hocky arena's construction, Glendale received just $2.2 million a year in stadium - related rent , sales, and fees. It's now laying off dozen of public workers to cover its $35 million budget shortfall. The news media will spend 15 minutes on a 1/4" of rain but will ignore news important to the American people.

The only balance Fox has to their "news", is the cartoons, like "FamilyGuy", and "The Simpsons" (they keep their Liberalism on the light side, or in satirical phrasing, which confuses the conservative mind, but makes liberals laugh, so they'll tune in, for market exposure).
Barry, here's a good rule of thumb...if the newscasters are young, blonde, and giggle, even when covering a story that has people dying, it isn't news, it's infotainment.
If the newscasters are male, and express overly indignant wrath at the story they're doing, it's not news, it's infotainment.
BTW, this goes for Fox, as well as the other major network news organizations. However, Fox has the lion's share of the liar's market, by far...
And, as for National/International news--there is no local station that can or will cover that...it's too expensive, so they rely on AP, or Reuters, for the most part. Again, it's screened by the local station, so it's either a fluff piece, or some disaster.
The closest thing to actual news I've seen, in years, is the BBC, and, to tell the truth, I really don't care who beat up who, at the football (soccer) game...
I suspect the real news people, if they are still doing news, are doing blogs, or using their investigative skills, to dig up dirt, in political campaigns.

I am glad to see that the Letter Writer is showing discernment in watching the only local Valley of the Sun TV Channel (KSAZ-Fox News Channel 10) that isn't ....Ultra-Liberal, if not Socialist....biased.
The worst of the lot is the one who gets tens and tens of thousands of your hard-earned Income Tax Dollars = ASU - PBS CHANNEL 8, KAET.
KAET has gotten ever more Liberal since it hooked-up with the ASU Cronkite School of Journalism. If you don't believe me then during the week watch KAET's "Horizon" Program at 5:30 pm and the "Horizonte" Program at 7:30 pm. You would think that you were watching a Los Angeles or a San Francisco based PBS TV Station.

Barry… one problem you mentioned was Fox News, an oxymoron. You are watching pop-news and info-tainment. There are sources for news but you have to find them. Of the local stations, for local news, I’ve found CBS5 to be most informative although they too, have to keep a certain level of entertainment in the content because people won’t stay tuned in if they don’t like what they hear, no matter how factual it may be.
Problem is that the size of an audience dictates how well they can sell commercials. No audience means no ads, ergo no news. Of course that means advertisers get to dictate what is shown because they’re paying the bills. Business decides what you watch! Business wants to keep you uninformed, stuck to the couch and buying what they want to sell, including which messages get to you.
The days of investigative reporting are pretty much gone. Investigations stir up trouble for business and politicians. Politics and business pay the four(?) major media corporations to keep you entertained. Did you notice how many millions of dollars are being spent on campaigns this year? Follow the money.
Politics has taken PBS out of the equation by defunding them. Current and LinkTV, which are publicly funded, are available on DirecTV but not Cox. BBC and PBS have no local news. Orwell’s 1984 is 2012. Déjà vu all over again!

The key words here Barry are "(media) responsible" the deplorable state of local tv news is that they still call themselves news shows.
What we are subjected to daily is a half hour to one hour adfest. with junk filled tabloid nonsense hosted by far to many pregnant ex-cheerlleaders and old high school jocks who are more concerned by their own personality and good looks that they totally disregard any real and substantive news, which is why I gave up watching local tv news a long time ago.
The only thing I can really justify is the weather, all I need to do is look out the window.
